The
History of Jewish Believers in Jesus is one of our most strategically important projects. The goal of the research is to accurately portray the journey of Jewish believers in Jesus from antiquity until today. This narrative challenges both Jews and Christians to rethink common misperceptions and give Jewish believers in Jesus access to their own history.
Chief Editor Dr. Oskar Skarsaune and Project Director Dr. Reidar Hvalvik have
completed the first volume of research,
Jewish
Believers in Jesus: The Early Centuries, published by Hendrickson Publishers.
This volume covers the first 500 years of church history. Dr. Skarsaune's summary
of this first volume of research was published as the December 2005 issue of our
journal,
Mishkan.
According to Dr. Skarsaune, "When it comes to modern Jewish believers, it is often medieval 'apostates' that are used as the valid analogy, not the Jewish Christians of antiquity." The mission of these films is to draw an analogy between contemporary Jewish believers and the early Jewish believers, who were strong and articulate followers of Jesus.
Dr. Skarsaune is currently researching the second volume of the history of Jewish believers, focusing on the Middle Ages. Qualified persons interested in helping research for Volumes Two and Three are invited to contact us in conjunction with our
doctoral program.
Also, as part of the project's research on the modern era, we are conducting a
survey of church members with a Jewish background, whether or not they identify themselves as Jews. For more information contact our
research team.
