On March 6, 2012, the Caspari Center hosted one of the world’s finest teachers of the Old Testament.
Director of Langham Partnership International (founded by John Stott), president of the theological working group at the Lausanne Congress in Cape Town in 2010, and author of several books, Christopher Wright visited us and gave a very inspiring lecture on the role of the nations in the Old Testament narrative.
In a profound way, Chris Wright showed how the Hebrew Scriptures portray the God of Israel as sovereign over all nations on earth in providence and in history, and yet that he also clearly has a unique relationship with biblical Israel within this purpose for all nations.
During the lecture, he asked the question, “What do the Torah, Prophets, and Writings have to say about God’s intention for the nations in relation to Israel?” His answer was, “Much more than many people think!”
Between 60 and 70 people showed up for the lecture, which sparked a lively debate centered around the particularity of the people of Israel in God’s plan for creation and the universal scope of the calling to Abraham to be a blessing to all nations.
